Health & Fitness Sources
This library identifies public-health and professional references that inform Finn's general educational content and product-level safety guardrails. It is not a claim that every AI response retrieved, cited, quoted, or was individually checked against every source below.
How sources are selected
We prioritize current U.S. government guidance and recognized professional medical or exercise organizations. We review links, edition status, and scope before listing a source and after a material guidance change is identified.
How sources are used
Sources support broad wellness principles and safety language. Finn does not diagnose, prescribe treatment, provide rehabilitation, or replace individualized screening by a qualified professional.
Generated content can still be wrong
AI can misstate a source, invent a citation, overlook a contraindication, or produce guidance that is unsafe for a particular person. Stop an activity that causes pain or concerning symptoms. Ask a qualified clinician before exercise or dietary changes if you have an injury, pregnancy, disability, chronic condition, medication-related concern, allergy, or other relevant circumstance. Call local emergency services for an emergency.
Training & Physical Activity
General adult activity targets, progression, resistance training, and preparticipation safety.
- Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, 2nd edition ↗U.S. Department of Health and Human ServicesCurrent federal baseline for adult aerobic and muscle-strengthening activity; published 2018 and still identified by HHS as the current edition.
- Adult Activity: An Overview ↗Centers for Disease Control and PreventionPlain-language adult activity targets and the principle that some activity is better than none.
- ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, 12th edition ↗American College of Sports MedicineCurrent flagship professional reference for exercise screening, testing, prescription, progression, and safety concepts. The source page describes the edition; the complete text is a paid professional publication.
Pain, Injury & Return to Activity
The basis for stop-if-painful language, gradual progression, and referral to qualified care instead of diagnosis or treatment.
- Knee Exercises ↗American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons — OrthoInfoSupports starting gradually, not ignoring pain, and asking a doctor or physical therapist when an exercise hurts or instructions are uncertain.
- Sprains, Strains and Other Soft-Tissue Injuries ↗American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons — OrthoInfoGeneral injury-safety reference supporting rest when pain or fatigue is present and professional care for persistent symptoms.
Nutrition, Hydration & Food Safety
General healthy-eating patterns, hydration education, and food-allergy safeguards. Finn does not provide medical nutrition therapy.
- Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025–2030 ↗U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services and AgricultureCurrent federal dietary guidance, released in 2026. Used only for general healthy-eating principles, not individualized treatment diets.
- About Water and Healthier Drinks ↗Centers for Disease Control and PreventionGeneral hydration education and beverage guidance. Individual fluid needs vary with health, environment, activity, and medication.
- Food Allergies ↗U.S. Food and Drug AdministrationFood-allergen labeling, symptom awareness, and direction to stop eating and seek appropriate care for a suspected reaction.
Sleep & Recovery
General adult sleep-duration education. A wearable or Finn summary cannot diagnose a sleep or recovery disorder.
Review and corrections
Last reviewed July 14, 2026. We review this library at least annually and when we identify a material update. Broken links, citation concerns, or safety issues can be reported to coachfinntech@gmail.com. A listed source does not endorse Finn, and Finn's summary does not replace the source itself.
